Research Interests

My research focuses on understanding the mechanisms that underlie changes in community structure by studying ecological dynamics and conservation biology of coral reefs, with emphasis in marine sponges, algae and corals.

I use an interdisciplinary approach in which I integrate experimental ecology, population genetics, reproductive biology and mathematical modeling. The goal of my research is to determine how ecological interactions are altered by anthropogenic activities and global impacts such as climate change, and aims to enhance management of marine ecosystems, including mesophotic reefs.
