Observations of deep-reef fishes in the Tongue-of-the-Ocean, Bahamas

Colin PL

Abstract

More than twenty species of fishes were observed from a submersible on a vertical or steeply sloping rock face at 90-300 m south of Whale Cay, Bahamas. The fishes observed were similar to those recorded from Jamaica and Belize (British Honduras) at equivalent depths. Some reef fishes occur from shallow reefs to depths below 90 m while others are restricted to depths below 50 m.
